THE FIRST NEXT-GENERATION ORBITAL KITCHEN PROVIDING BAKING AND YOGURT FERMENTATION IN SPACE

In November 2025, Chinese astronauts aboard the Tiangong space station prepared baked chicken wings and steak in orbit for the first time using a specially developed hot-air oven.

Manufacturer of the oven — JOYOUNG CO LTD, China. The company was selected to develop equipment for China’s space kitchen in 2014. The oven was delivered aboard the Shenzhou-21 spacecraft in October 2025.

China’s upgraded orbital kitchen also enables yogurt fermentation in space, expanding food preparation capabilities for astronauts on long-duration missions.

The achievement is included in the World Book of Records for Asia and Africa — GBR 2026.
