THE FEHMARNBELT TUNNEL

A new engineering landmark is taking shape beneath the Baltic Sea between Denmark and Germany

With a planned length of approximately 18 kilometres the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel will become the worlds longest immersed tunnel

The tunnel will connect Rødbyhavn in Denmark with Puttgarden in Germany and will carry both railway and road traffic

89 massive prefabricated concrete elements are being manufactured and immersed into a specially prepared trench on the seabed

When completed the journey through the tunnel will take approximately 7 minutes by train and around 10 minutes by car
